Alexander Gerst’s Earth timelapses

Watch Earth roll by through the perspective of ESA astronaut Alexander Gerst in this six-minute timelapse video from space. Combining 12 500 images taken by Alexander during his six-month Blue Dot mission on the International Space Station this Ultra High Definition video shows the best our beautiful planet has to offer.

Marvel at the auroras, sunrises, clouds, stars, oceans, the Milky Way, the International Space Station, lightning, cities at night, spacecraft and the thin band of atmosphere that protects us from space.

Often while conducting scientific experiments or docking spacecraft Alexander would set cameras to automatically take pictures at regular intervals. Combining these images gives the timelapse effect seen in this video.

Watch the video in 4K resolution for the best effect and find out more about Alexander Gerst’s Blue Dot mission here: http://www.esa.int/BlueDot

Talking about favorite music with Jefferson I had to mention this album which is one of my all-time favorites! Such beautiful music. I have all of her CDs but this is still the very best.

Enya - Watermark

The music from the Cloud Atlas trailer. Awesome.

i will never be able to understand why women do not fight back or at the very least immediately leave the bastard.
Even if the police is of little help, there are very many safe houses for battered women and lots of self-help organisations.

How to look your best the morning after

Very touching moment - Irish fans singing when their team lost 0:4 to Spain.
Just for that the team ought to be allowed to continue and the country with the worst hooligan fans be kicked out of the competition.

For those of you who have no idea what it feels like to be subject to censorship.

This is what we get for most content on YouTube. The site has become nearly useless to us because even private videos that have some kind of soundtrack are blocked.

It is disgusting and - if only they would realize it before it's too late - totally contrary to their intentions. Greed often backfires, as it will in this case.

Saw this on Borderline's blog and just had to reblog it.

Very cool :-)

Why, why are laws a thing you can buy
They got paid off, should be laid off, re-election denied
Our web means more than lawyers, lobbies and lies
So speak up before the internet dies

Simon's Cat in 'Catnap'

Wow - makes listening to it ever so much more impressive because it visualizes the technical difficulty of playing this. Fascinating - beautiful to watch.

Thank you Edosan for sharing this :-)

Thank you Edosan for sending me this.

This is a must see.

Standing Up for Freedom

This is from a German movie from 1997 (I think) about two guys who find out that they have terminal cancer and who decide that they want to see the ocean before they die. So they steal a car which unfortunately contains a briefcase full of drug money.... well, things happen before they finally make it.

Great, great movie.

Knocking on Heaven's Door

This is the end of the movie. Must see.

WeAreGeek sent me this absolutely awesome song. Never heard of Equilibrium before although it's a German group. Wow. Totally blew me away !

Equilibrium - Mana

Going through my old SU blog, weeding out the dead links, I found this awesome song. Luckily there are dozens of versions of it on YouTube. This is from a concert in Stuttgart in 2002. So here it is again. One of my favourite songs.

Blind Guardian - The Bard Song - Live

Now you all know the bards and their songs
When hours have gone by, I'll close my eyes
In a world far away we may meet again
But now hear my song about the dawn of the night
Let's sing the bards' song
Tomorrow will take us away far from home
No one will ever know our names
but the bards' songs will remain
Tomorrow will take it away the fear of today
It will be gone due to our magic songs
There's only one song left in my mind
Tales of a brave man who lived far from here
Now the bard songs are over and it's time to leave
No one should ask you for the name of the one
Who tells the story
Tomorrow will take us away far from home
No one will ever know our names
but the bards' songs will remain
Tomorrow all will be known and you're not alone
So don't be afraid in the dark and cold
'Cause the bards' songs will remain they all will remain
In my thoughts and in my dreams they're always in my mind
These songs of hobbit, dwarves and men and elves
Come close your eyes you can see them too

Poetry by RUMI -- Only Breath

Not Christian or Jew or Muslim,
not Hindu, Buddhist, Sufi, or Zen.
Not any religion or cultural system.

I am not from the East or the West,
not out of the ocean
or up from the ground,
not natural or ethereal,
not composed of elements at all.

I do not exist,
am not an entity in this world or the next,
did not descend from Adam or Eve
or any origin story.

My place is placeless,
a trace of the traceless.
Neither body nor soul.

I belong to the beloved,
have seen the two worlds as one
and that one call to and know,

first, last, outer, inner, only that
breath breathing human being.

Awesome dancing !
