Tourist Benjamin Hughes encounters a cool 3D optical illusion painting at The Gallery at Ice in Windsor, England. The artwork is known as a "reverspective" and the style was originally created by British artist Patrick Hughes (no relation) in the 1960s.

If you love me, and this comes up for auction, I need this. (Er - the scuplture, therein)

It is a thing of unmatched beauty in my eyes, it's taken its inspirations from so
many of my favourite sculptors and has so much magic and mystery about it - I want! I want!

I can't sleep. Again.

But I found this, and it makes it totally worth it.

I can't stand it, I know you planned it
I'm gonna set it straight, this Watergate
I can't stand rocking when I'm in here
'Cause your crystal ball ain't so crystal clear

So while you sit back and wonder why
I got this fucking thorn in my side
Oh my God, it's a mirage
I'm tellin' y'all, it's a sabotage

So, so, so, so listen up 'cause you can't say nothin'
You'll shut me down with a push of your button?
But you, I'm out and I'm gone
I'll tell you now, I keep it on and on

I have no idea to this day what those two Italian ladies were singing about. Truth is, I don't want to know. Some things are best left unsaid. I'd like to think they were singing about something so beautiful, it can't be expressed in words, and makes your heart ache because of it. I tell you, those voices soared higher and farther than anybody in a gray place dares to dream. It was like some beautiful bird flapped into our drab little cage and made those walls dissolve away, and for the briefest of moments, every last man in Shawshank felt free.

Sean (1970)

Filmmaker Ralph Arlyck interviews his neighbor, Sean Farrell, a 4-year-old living on San Francisco's Haight Street in 1969. Sean gives his thoughts on life in his home, a hippie crash pad, and casually mentions that he smokes pot, which caused this short film to become a national sensation.

Where were you, when I was burned and broken
While the days slipped by, from my window watching

Where were you, when I was hurt and helpless
Because the things you say, and the things you do, surround me

While you were hanging yourself on someone else's words
Dying to believe in what you heard

I was staring straight into the shining sun

I thought it was a Rorshach test. Evidently, I'm pure filth.

We may never meet again

So shed your skin, and let's get started

When I was at University, my house was opposite a large tract of farmland belonging to an agricultural research station.

It was quite picturesque; lush green pastures spiked with magnificent old pines, and sheep and cows dotting the landscape...
Until, early one morning - my once peaceful and picturesque view was no longer: the cows had bloody windows.

Brilliant. It almost makes me want to wear a gold dolphin earring.

"Stellluuuuhhhhh! STELLLLUUUUUUHHH!!!"

"I'm missing Golden Girls for this!"

Cracks me up every time.

The MacGyver theme song is priceless.

"Moo-moo moo-moo...."

This song has been haunting me for days.

I've just started watching this series - and the cinematography is absolutely incredible.

As seen here with photographer, Bali Strickland, filming surfer, Dylan Longbottom. Their $100k TyphoonHD4 camera was MacGyver'd on the fly for the job (re-housed in a makeshift waterproof casing on the boat), this camera shoots with an FPS of '20 times' the normal HD camera.

That's around 600 frames per second. And you can see them very distinctly in this amazing clip.

Edith Piaf admired, and was greatly influenced by, one of her predecessors: Marie Dubas.
Though Dubas was actually the first to record this love song -called "Mon Legionnaire"- it has always been more popularly associated with Piaf.

In this 1936 'music video', she says of the soldier's tattoos:

He was covered in tattoos
That I never quite understood
His neck carried: "Not seen nor taken"
On his heart it read: "No one"
On his right arm: "Reason"

When I read the title, I'll admit to expecting something more sinister...

Melancholic nostalgia.

I hadn't heard this song in forever - but saw "Little Fish" (2005) over the weekend, starring Cate Blanchett, Sam Neill & Hugo Weaving.

It got little press, perhaps being "too australian" for the mainstream American market. Still, it was quietly enjoyable, maybe reaching about a 6.5 out of 10 on Tara's Movie Meter.

Oh dear god- they're serious.

Intricately beautiful music video from Tricot Machine.

Bad, bad Matt Mahaffey rockin' the Omnichord.

I just saw this last night, and would recommend it.

I would say some of the negative reviews are due to the uncomfortable subject matter - and unadorned story-telling.  There's no all-american good guy, there's no all-american happy ending.

So if you have any kind of depressive disorder, the below trailer for Downloading Nancy is not for you. It's not just that it's a movie about a woman who hires a man from the 'net to kill her, and the violent relationship that ensues - but it's filmed in the most dank, depressing colours that make you think of every gas station you've found yourself in at 3am., wondering what happened to your life.

Starring Maria Bello, Jason Patric and Rufus Sewell. (Ray Liotta was replaced by Sewell, sadly. I fucking hate Rufus Sewell.)
Steve West saw the movie at last year's Sundance and said "It was like the film was raping my face."

Some of the better theme music out there...

It's just like everyone else trying to do a kiwi accent:

I hadn't heard this version before (knowingly, at least.)

Disempowerment of women -via advertising- has been going on for so long, the majority of people are completely unaware of the true messages being sold. This informative movie short isn't conspiracy theory or propaganda, she speaks to ongoing, subliminal social conditioning via the media. It's extremely damaging and shapes perceptions in EVERYONE, you cannot escape the constant barrage.

Personally, I believe if parents educated their children to be media savvy, I really think we would see a marked change in media & advertising within 5 years. As adults, we've surrendered our power, and/or even worse, we've compromised our moral and ethical standards......but the younger generation are still hopeful, passionate and motivated to make changes we are too chickenshit to do ourselves.

I love this album - I can't believe how so many of the live-performed tracks sound better to me than the original studio recordings. LOVE that.
