It's like...

A jungle.

Sometimes -

It makes me...

How I keep

- (excerpt from) Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five - July 1, 1982

I really couldn't more excited about this new album...and here's a sneak peak.

And I LOVE it.

"Kids these days will never know the joy of going to the record store to buy music on an inferior medium from a man who hates you."

Heymoonshaker Beatboxing down Bricklane

This guy is crazy good.

I'm a Bad Mother Fucker

RT says: "You may have seen a lot of things, but nothing will prepare you for this high-octane homage to ultra-violence from Russian punk band Biting Elbows. Getting 6 million YouTube views in just 4 days, the viral video is set to take the web by storm.

If Quentin Tarantino decided to direct the latest James Bond installment in the style of Prodigy’s Smack My Bitch Up,
Biting Elbows Bad Motheruer (Insane Office Escape 2) just might be what you’d get. Set that to an abrasive punk jam
blasting over and Office Space inspired massacre and you’ve guaranteed yourself a place in viral video Valhalla."

Just when I thought this song couldn't get any fucking sexier...
I found this VANISHING POINT video with it!

Hubba fucking hubba.

YOSI HORIKAWA - AOTEAROA from Tom Gould on Vimeo.

My home.

Aotearoa - "The Land of the Long White Cloud".

Warning: Don't watch if you're a big girl's blouse.

Frank Sinatra in concert at the Sporting Club, Monte Carlo, June 1958.

There's nothing like having the most amazing musician friends to make you feel completely inadequate.
At least the soundtrack to my inadequacy is fucking amazing.

Lindy - you rock, sir.

Look what my friend Matt made!!!!

I'm so proud.

Swissted is an ongoing project by graphic designer Mike Joyce, owner of Stereotype Design in New York City. Drawing from his love of punk rock and swiss modernism, two movements that have absolutely nothing to do with one another - Mike has redesigned vintage punk, hardcore, and indie rock show flyers into international typographic style posters.
Each poster is sized to the standard swiss kiosk dimensions of 35.5 inches wide by 50 inches high and set in berthold akzidenz grotesk medium, all lowercase.
Every single one of these shows actually happened.

A beautiful present from ICE COLD Matt Siegel

I've always preferred the Stereophonics cover of this song, over the Tragically Hip's original.

But then again, I fucking hate the Tragically Hip.

Full Bob Dylan film, documenting his now legendary 1966 "Judas" tour

And as I started reaching deeper I realized that most of the blues of that day was done by men.
Women just didn’t have the nerve.

Jamesetta Hawkins aka Etta James (January 25, 1938 – January 20, 2012)

R.I.P to the Queen of Soul

Chris Cornell wants me. He just doesn't know it yet.

via the also amazing: Borderline

Thank you
I am now wearing this song like an old, worn blanket

If this doesn't get you dancing around your living room, you're dead inside. OR RACIST.

I couldn't love this song and video any more than I do. Unless I play it again.

This will keep me awake at night...

Always worth revisiting.

No. 7 kills me every time.
Ah - the music of my youth.

I wanna get drunk and break shit.

Currently on high rotation thanks to Jeb.

Er...."The Difficult Brown"?

I hate you all for not sending me this sooner.

Thank you to Ultraspic, however :p

Today's Breakfast Music brought to you by Reznor Inc.

And you can have it all - my empire of dirt

Sunday morning.

Awoken by surprise visit from ex-in-laws.

Tuesday 5 am.

My hero, Greg Giraldo. Immortalized beautifully here by Lazyboy. He cut through Greg's social comedy to reveal it's essence.

The salty truth. That man had a brain the size of a planet.

His name should be in the motherfucking credits. Just sayin'.

This song makes me want to do a bad bad thing.

ASCII music video!! From a kiwi artist!! My inner geek is all atwitter.

Is there some karmic, true love thing happening here, baby, or what?

It's a Viking Love Show.

My 80s nostalgia trip - sod off.

I love it when you talk dirty to me.

Via megatrout.

The bastard should post more often.

Where were you, when I was burned and broken
While the days slipped by, from my window watching

Where were you, when I was hurt and helpless
Because the things you say, and the things you do, surround me

While you were hanging yourself on someone else's words
Dying to believe in what you heard

I was staring straight into the shining sun

We may never meet again

So shed your skin, and let's get started

I love Louis. He's my comedian boyfriend.

Dave, I love you with all my heart - and your music has certainly been the backdrop to much of my youth - but what the fuck were you thinking with that ratty mullet and Cosby sweater.

Oh, a storm is threat'ning
My very life today
If I don't get some shelter
Oh yeah, I'm gonna fade away

War, children - it's just a shot away
It's just a shot away
War, children - it's just a shot away
It's just a shot away

Great for rocking out while you're vacuuming.

The original...

Junior Reid

One of my all time favourite albums.

RIP Guru, yours is a huge and tragic loss.

Okay this may also be the best thing this week.

Bo is every kind of cool.

Ha. It's funny 'cause it's true.

VooDoo Blues Doctor by Dan Dalton

Brilliant. It almost makes me want to wear a gold dolphin earring.

Shake your thang.

Tom blew my mind.

Adam Yauch better hope he heals fast.

Bettye Lavette covering Elton John.

Sorry - it's a Tricky Sunday.

You'll get over it when you die.

This track featuring the amazing Martina Topley-Bird.

The beautiful Hang Drum.

Click the link for a selection of clips - an amazing sound.
Jesus, and his lawyer, are coming back.

I had completely forgotten about this.

They don't make 'em like they used to.

Everything looks perfect from far away.

Love in a Trashcan by the Raveonettes

Starring Bettie Page

Chad Van Gaalen's "Molten Light".

Intriguing video...

Melancholic nostalgia.

I hadn't heard this song in forever - but saw "Little Fish" (2005) over the weekend, starring Cate Blanchett, Sam Neill & Hugo Weaving.

It got little press, perhaps being "too australian" for the mainstream American market. Still, it was quietly enjoyable, maybe reaching about a 6.5 out of 10 on Tara's Movie Meter.

Another brilliant film I have recently seen.

They don't make 'em much cooler than Reggie Watts. I heart the Reggie.

The Beginning Is Near from Jakob Lodwick on Vimeo.

Always preferred his version over the Jackson 5.

Who put Whitey in the White House.

You did, baby.

I am now reconsidering my Halloween costume...

(Arguably) Their only decent track.

Man next door by Massive attack as a soundtrack for Film by Alan Schneider, written by Samuel Beckett (1965)

Here's a sneaky preview of the front cover of the forthcoming Roots Manuva album, Slime and Reason, due for release in September.
Well it's about damn time.
I need to wander through the hills for 15 days.

I said goddamn...

*bump* - because I wanna.

From the interview:

Pitchfork: Do you have a favorite sound?

Tom Waits: Bacon. In a frying pan. If you record the sound of bacon in a frying pan and play it back it sounds like the pops and cracks on an old 33 1/3 recording. Almost exactly like that. You could substitute it for that sound."

I know this is a sign of me getting old, but damn it, they just don't make bands the way they used to.

Steriogram - Walkie Talkie Man.

Mary blows my mind on this track.

I love me some Reggie.
Feb 16 2008, 12:08am: Nostalgia.

June 25, 2011: Still.

Mark Knopfler with Emmy Lou Harris

White man came - took everything

When you talk...you make me cringe

Che Fu with Supergroove - more classic kiwi music.

Hope Sandoval with Death in Vegas.

One of my all-time faves.

Lend me some sugar - I am your neighbour
And all the world is football-shaped - it's just for me to kick it's face.

Good grief. I am turning into a Liam Lynch groupie.

One of my all-time favourite bands. Even have all their LPs stashed away somewhere....
Wow, 15 was a long time ago.
